Investing in the Local Economy
Neighborhoods, families, and children all clearly benefit from WHT’s affordable housing work, and so does the regional economy. Between 2005 and 2007 more than $28 million of WHT housing rehabilitation and construction work took place in Windham County contributing to overall economic health. The local purchase of materials and supplies, and the hiring of contractors, sub-contractors, consultants, engineers, architects, and Realtors have a significant ripple effect throughout the local economy, generating additional income, jobs, and opportunities. Moreover, the benefits of developing housing that is affordable to ordinary working Vermonters extend beyond their families to employers and to the economy as a whole.
